Citizens in northeastern states will get a rare glimpse of a rocket start this week. On Tuesday afternoon, NASA will start a Northrop Grumman Cygnus cargo spacecraft atop an Antares rocket from the room agency’s Wallops Flight Facility in jap Virginia.
Liftoff is scheduled at 5:56 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday. The mission will have 8,200 lbs . of science and crew provides to the International Room Station. It will be Northrop Grumman’s 16th re-offer mission to the ISS.
The ideal places to see the rocket start are in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. NASA recommends six key viewing spots:
- The Wallops Visitor Centre on Wallops Island, Virginia
- Chincoteague Island in Chincoteague, Virginia
- Virginia Seaside, Virginia
- Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland
- Ocean Town, Maryland
- Delaware Seashore and Fenwick Island Point out Park, Delaware
But as very long as skies are clear, the rocket could be seen across the Mid-Atlantic region together with elements of New Jersey.

The greatest time to see the rocket differs by area. In southern New Jersey, for instance, the key time to appear up will be 60 to 90 seconds right after the liftoff. In northern and central Jersey the ideal viewing time will be 90 to 120 seconds right after start.
Reside coverage of the mission will commence at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on NASA Television. The Cygnus spacecraft is expected to get there at the room station at about 6:10 a.m. Thursday. NASA astronaut Megan McArthur from the Expedition 65 mission will seize Cygnus with the house station’s robotic arm with the assistance of European Room Agency astronaut Thomas Pesquet.
