Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will have to testify ahead of the FTC in Prime membership probe.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and CEO Andy Jassy will be compelled to testify before the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in an investigation about Amazon’s Primary membership plan immediately after failing to overturn a subpoena.

The FTC released a probe in March 2021 to examine regardless of whether Amazon lured consumers into signing up for its yearly Key membership and deliberately created the cancellation process complicated. The regulator issued a subpoena in June inquiring Bezos, Jassy and 15 other Amazon employees to testify.

In response, Amazon in August submitted a petition trying to find to terminate the subpoena, arguing that those people weren’t acquainted with the particulars of Prime’s signal-up and cancellation approach. The FTC denied Amazon’s ask for in an purchase published by Republican Commissioner Christine Wilson on Sept. 21.

In a statement, Amazon reported it’s “disappointed but unsurprised” at the FTC’s selection. “We continue to be concerned that the most recent requests are extremely broad and needlessly burdensome, and we will discover all our selections,” an Amazon spokesperson claimed.
