Why was this scene removed from Stree 2?
Stree 2 has emerged as one of the most successful Bollywood films of the year, surpassing its budget on the very first day. Released on August 15, featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, the film made its debut in theaters. Interestingly, there was an initial screening on the night of August 14, at 9:30 PM. The audience response has been overwhelmingly positive, with the film witnessing a significant boost at the box office during both weekends. In just 14 days, Stree 2 has shattered numerous records, although the lowest earnings were observed on the 14th day, where it collected ₹9.75 crores. Currently, the Indian net collection of the film stands at an impressive ₹424.55 crores, and it is on the verge of entering the ₹450 crores club. The impeccable timing and execution of the film have captivated audiences, but one particular scene was shot and later cut during the final editing process.
Recently, Rajkummar Rao shared pictures on Instagram featuring him dressed in women’s clothing from one of his favorite scenes in Stree 2 that unfortunately did not make the final cut. In his post, he playfully asked fans if they wanted to see this scene in the film and tagged director Amar Kaushik. The images showcased Rao in a shimmery skirt, a red top, and high heels, along with another snapshot of him posing with Amar Kaushik.
Audience Reaction to the Deleted Scene
After seeing Rajkummar in cross-dressing attire, fans flooded the comments section with requests, pleading for the scene to be included. However, the reason for its removal remained unclear until a recent report from Bollywood Hungama brought some insights. According to an insider from the production unit, Rajkummar Rao’s cross-dressing was intended as a comedic plot device as his character, Vicky, disguises himself as a woman to confront the film’s villain, the ‘Sirkatta,’ who specifically targets women.
In this scene, Vicky, played by Rao, is not recognized by his friend Janaa (Abhishek Banerjee), adding an additional layer of comedy to the moment. The scene reportedly includes hilarious mishaps, such as Vicky’s high heels breaking and comedic elements surrounding his wig.
What Lies Ahead for the Deleted Scene?
The report also noted that filmmakers often make such editing decisions following a film’s initial success, primarily to trim down run time. If the final cut feels lengthy, they may remove certain scenes or songs. There is potential for this omitted scene to be included later on, especially when the film is released on OTT platforms. Stree 2 is expected to stream on Amazon Prime Video, likely around the festival of Dussehra. Similar past examples include the addition of a song in ‘Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty’ a week post its theatrical release, enhancing its entertainment value.
