West Indies squad has been announced for the white ball series against Ireland and England. Chris Gayle has not got a place in this team. Explaining the reason behind this, Cricket West Indies said that they are looking for the right opportunity to honor Gayle. West Indies are to play 9 matches in January 2022, in which there will be 3 One Day Internationals and 6 T20 Internationals. Cricket West Indies chief Ricky Skerritt told Cricbuzz that, “Gayle has been performing amazingly for Jamaica and the West Indies since he was a teenager. In such a situation, it becomes necessary that his farewell is in the presence of the fans. Cricket West Indies are looking for the right time and opportunity. So that Chris can enjoy that moment to the fullest.”

Earlier there was news that Cricket West Indies is going to organize a farewell match against Ireland for Chris Gayle. But the Chief of the West Indies Cricket Board made it clear that there was no such plan that he would be selected in the team for the only T20 against Ireland. The 42-year-old opener has played 380 matches for West Indies in white ball cricket. Apart from this, he has also participated in 103 test matches.

The fight will start from January 8

Kieron Pollard will be the captain of the selected white ball team against Ireland and England. The 3-match ODI series between Ireland and West Indies will start from January 8. The second ODI will be played on January 11 and the third on January 14. All these matches will be played at Sabina Park, Jamaica. In addition, these matches will also be part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, in which the top 7 teams will have automatic qualification for the 2023 World Cup. The only T20 against Ireland will also be played in Jamaica. After playing the series against Ireland, the West Indies team will leave for Barbados with the intention of facing England, where they will play a series of 5 T20 matches from 22 to 30 January.
