Famous filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar, known for delivering blockbuster films featuring major stars like Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Ranveer Singh, is set to make a comeback with Yash Raj Films (YRF). Zafar had directed his first four films under this production house, with his debut film released in 2011, marking the start of an illustrious career in Bollywood.
According to sources, Zafar plans to collaborate with YRF on not just one or two, but multiple film projects. Fans are eagerly awaiting this collaboration. Under the YRF banner, Ali Abbas Zafar has given several hit films, starting with his first film, ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan,’ which was released in 2011 and was a romantic comedy. The movie starred Katrina Kaif, Imran Khan, and Ali Zafar in lead roles and became a box office success.
Starting with ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’
The success of ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ propelled Zafar into his next project, the action film ‘Gunde,’ released in 2014. This film featured Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, and Priyanka Chopra, and was another successful venture for Zafar. Following the back-to-back hits, Ali Abbas Zafar continued to deliver blockbuster films in collaboration with YRF. One of his most notable works is the film ‘Sultan,’ thrilling audiences with its wrestling drama and starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma. Released in 2016, ‘Sultan’ garnered immense popularity and grossed over ₹600 crores globally, making it one of YRF’s biggest films.
YRF’s Spy Universe and ‘Bharat’
In addition to blockbuster hits, Zafar worked on the second installment of YRF’s popular spy universe franchise, named ‘Tiger Zinda Hai,’ featuring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in lead roles. The film performed exceptionally well at the box office. However, Zafar’s first film outside the YRF banner was ‘Bharat,’ a hit released in 2019, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. This film was inspired by the South Korean film ‘Ode to My Father’ and was produced under Salman Khan Films, Reel Life Production, and T-Series banners.
Exploration in Web Series
Ali Abbas Zafar has also ventured into web series, the most notable being ‘Tandav,’ released in 2021, featuring Saif Ali Khan in the lead role. However, parts of ‘Tandav’ offended some groups, leading Amazon Prime Video to remove certain scenes, and Zafar later issued an apology. In 2022, he directed the Netflix drama ‘Jogi,’ starring Diljit Dosanjh. Recently, he also produced a high-octane action thriller titled ‘Bloody Daddy,’ a remake of the French film ‘Sleepless Nights,’ featuring Shahid Kapoor, with production by Jio Studios.
Anticipating Future Projects
Zafar’s most recent film, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,’ starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, failed to impress audiences and was released earlier this year. However, Ali Abbas Zafar’s return to YRF is anticipated to be intriguing. Although details about their collaboration remain undisclosed, fans are excited about the upcoming films, expecting a blend of innovative storytelling and high-octane entertainment.
