Right-handed explosive batsman Robin Uthappa has retired. Robin Uthappa announced his retirement on Wednesday. Let us tell you that Robin Uthappa played 46 ODIs and 13 T20 matches for Team India. Uthappa was one of the heroes of Team India’s first T20 World Cup victory. Uthappa played first-class cricket for Karnataka and Kerala in which his bat scored more than 9000 runs. At the same time, he scored 6534 runs in List A as well. In T20 too, 7272 runs were scored from his bat. Let us tell you five big things of his life.

Big things of Robin Uthappa’s career

  1. Robin Uthappa’s father’s name is Venu Uthappa, who has been an international hockey referee. He was also the President of Karnataka Hockey Association. Despite his father’s love for hockey, Uthappa chose cricket and made a name for himself in the game at a very young age.
  2. Robin Uthappa’s father is Hindu and mother is Christian. Uthappa remained a Hindu till the age of 25 but in 2011 he converted to Christianity. Along with Uthappa, his sister also converted to Christianity.
  3. Robin Uthappa used to have epileptic seizures when he was 10 years old. Due to the treatment, his metabolic rate had increased, due to which he used to have a lot of problem in maintaining his weight. His problem lasted for 20-25 years but after that he overcame it with the help of a nutritionist. He made himself fit by reducing his weight by 20 kg.
  4. To take his career to new heights, Uthappa hired former Indian batsman Praveen Amre as his personal batting coach. Wherever Uthappa used to play, Praveen Amre used to travel with him. Because of Amre, Uthappa has overcome many of his shortcomings.
  5. The year 2013-14 is considered to be the golden year of Uthappa’s career. This year he won the Ranji Trophy for Karnataka. Uthappa lost the victory this year and also won the Irani Trophy. Along with this, he also won the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders.
