National Award Winning Legendary Singer Shivamogga Subbanna passed away on Thursday night due to a heart attack in Bengaluru. He was 83 years old. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid his last tribute to Shivamogga Subbanna on his Twitter handle. In his tweet, the Prime Minister wrote that Shivamogga Subbana, a singer of exceptional talent, was a household name for Kannada songs and music lovers. The way his works are praised, so is his effort to connect with his new generation through Kannada poetry. I am saddened by his death. Prayers to his family and fans. om Shanti.”

Shivamogga Subbana was the first Kannada playback singer to win the National Award for playback singing for his song ‘Kaadu Kudure Odi Banditta’ in the film ‘Kaadu Kudure’. He was known for his work in the field of ‘Sugam Sangeet’, a genre in which songs are composed from poetry composed in Kannada. Subbanna had received many awards for singing poems by famous Kannada poets like Kuvempu and Da Ra Bendre.
