There was speculation that due to his slap, the Academy Awards Committee might take back his award but it has not happened. The committee has also issued an official statement regarding this whole matter.

Will Smith has already tendered his resignation

A statement issued by Academy Awards President David Rubin and CEO Don Hudson read that “The Board has decided that for a period of 10 years beginning April 8, 2022, Will Smith shall be allowed to participate in any Academy events. Will not be allowed to participate either in virtual or virtual mode. Academy governors invited board members, including board members Steven Spielberg and Whoopi Goldberg, on Friday morning to discuss action against Smith. However, Will Smith has already resigned from this group.

This decision was taken to protect the safety of artists and guests.

Actors do not need to be members of the Academy to be nominated for the Oscars, although every year the actors nominated for the Oscars are voted on by the members of this group. The statement also said, “The 94th Oscars was meant to celebrate the success of the many people who have done incredible work over the past year.
