Flax-fuel is an alternative fuel prepared from a mixture of gasoline and methanol or ethanol. He said companies like TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto have already started manufacturing flex-fuel engines for two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

What are Flex Fuel Vehicles?

Let us tell you that a Flex Fuel Engine is an internal combustion engine in a way that can run on more than one type of fuel and if it wants, it can also be run on mixed fuel. In this, a mixture of ethanol and methanol can be used along with petrol. With the advent of technology like fuel composition sensor and ECU programming, the engine can use the fuel automatically by setting the quantity. Flax fuel reduces fuel costs. At the same time, vehicles running on such fuel spread less pollution. In such a situation, the Union Minister has appealed to all the automobile companies to start this initiative.

If ethanol or gasoline is to be used, then such vehicles will have to be launched in the market which will run on flex engine. Such vehicles are made and run in many parts of the world. Its manufacturing has not started in India yet. The FAV is powered by an internal combustion engine that runs on gasoline, a mixture of gasoline and ethanol. In such vehicles, up to 83% ethanol can be mixed in the fuel.
