After the formation of this commission, Arvind Panagariya was made the first vice-chairman of NITI Aayog. Rajiv Kumar was made the Deputy Chairman of NITI Aayog on 1 September 2017 after the resignation of Arvind Panagariya. Rajiv Kumar was the second deputy chairman of NITI Aayog. Before becoming the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Rajiv Kumar was the General Secretary of FICCI. Rajiv Kumar worked as the Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank from 1995 to 2005. Not only this, before joining the Asian Development Bank, Rajiv Kumar was the Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance from 1992 to 1995.

Who is Rajiv Kumar?
According to the website of NITI Aayog, Dr. Rajiv Kumar has vast experience of working with academia, government, and industry. After completing his higher education from Oxford, he worked as a Program Coordinator at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, Delhi. Here he lived from 1982 to 87. Between 1987-89, he was a professor at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. Later he was also the Director and CEO of ICRIER from 2006 to 2011. He later became a Senior Fellow at the Center for Policy Research.
Pahal India Foundation was established in the year 2013
In 2013, he also founded the Pahal India Foundation, which is a non-profit think tank. Rajiv continued to serve as its chief till 2017. He has a long experience of working with the government. He was the Senior Consultant of the Ministry of Industry, the Economic Advisor to the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. Along with this, he has also worked with ADB, World Bank, CII, FICCI, State Bank and Reserve Bank.
