Last year, Maruti Suzuki launched the new generation of Celerio and it was also confirmed that they will launch the CNG variant of Celerio. Now, ET Auto sources have revealed that Maruti Suzuki will launch the Celerio CNG later this month. ET Auto is expecting the launch around January 20.

The Celerio will now come with factory fitted CNG. Such vehicles come under the S-CNG family of Maruti Suzuki vehicles. The Celerio CNG is expected to deliver 30 km/kg fuel efficiency. The previous generation Celerio claimed a mileage of 30.47 km/kg. The Celerio is already the most fuel efficient vehicle in India. Its fuel efficiency has been claimed of 26.68 kmpl when running on petrol.

CV Raman, Chief Technical Officer, Maruti Suzuki has already said that the new K10C engine can be easily updated to run on CNG. Hence, we are expecting the Celerio CNG to come with the same engine. This engine comes with two injectors per cylinder instead of one injector. This helps in keeping the engine cool and gives better control over fuel filling. It also comes with idle start/stop technology. The engine stops automatically when the car is stopped and starts automatically when the driver presses the clutch. All this helps in saving fuel and making the Celerio the most fuel efficient vehicle in the Indian market.

The new K10C engine is also more powerful than the K10B engine. It generates maximum power of 68 bhp and peak torque of 89 Nm. It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed manual transmission. However, the CNG variant will not be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Prices and Variants

The current price of Celerio starts at Rs 4.99 Lakh (Ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 6.94 Lakh (Ex-showroom). The CNG variant can cost around Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 more than the regular variant. Currently, there are four variants of Celerio available. These include LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+. We are expecting the CNG variant to be offered only with the VXi variant.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio competes with Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro, Renault Kwid and Datsun Go. The Celerio CNG will compete with the Tata Tiago CNG and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG.
