One such incident occurred on Wednesday night in Manipur (Manipur Landslide), where a landslide occurred near Tupul railway station in Noni district and hit the 107 Territorial Army camp. So far more than 15 people have been reported dead in this landslide, while more than 50 people are still missing. Excavator machines have been deployed to retrieve the bodies from the river. Apart from this, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Territorial Army and Central and State Disaster Forces are conducting search operations at the spot.
It is being told that at least half of the people who are missing due to the landslide belong to the Territorial Army. Sniffer dogs have also been pressed into service to locate the people trapped under the rubble. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
