On Thursday, August 11, the BCCI had decided to change the captaincy of Team India for the Zimbabwe tour and hand over the command to KL Rahul in place of Shikhar Dhawan.
Rahul Dravid will not coach India on this tour.
India and Zimbabwe The three-match one-day series is going to start from August 18. for this series Indian team It has been announced and under the captaincy of KL Rahul, Team India will leave for Zimbabwe on Saturday. Many senior players have been rested for this series as they have been selected in the squad for the Asia Cup 2022. In such a situation, apparently Rahul Dravid will also not be able to go to Zimbabwe as the coach of the team. So VVS Laxman Once again this responsibility has been given.
Laxman to command because of Asia Cup
News agency PTI quoted Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, as saying that the head of the National Cricket Academy, VVS Laxman, will be the acting head coach of India for the Zimbabwe tour. The reason for this decision of BCCI is the Asia Cup tournament starting on August 27, for which Team India will leave for UAE on August 23, while the ODI series will end on August 22. Laxman had earlier taken this responsibility on the tour of Ireland at the end of June.
BCCI secretary Shah said that Dravid has not been rested, but this decision has been taken due to the small difference between the two series. Shah told PTI-language,
“Yes, Laxman will take over the responsibility of the team for the three-match ODI series to be played on Zimbabwe tour. It is not that Rahul Dravid is being rested. The ODI series in Zimbabwe will be completed on 22 August and the Indian team along with Dravid will leave for UAE on 23 August. The time between these two tournaments is very short, so Laxman will take up the responsibility of the Indian team in Zimbabwe.
Rahul-Hooda will travel from Harare to Dubai
There are only two such members in the Indian team going on Zimbabwe tour, who are also part of the Indian squad for the Asia Cup. Shah told about this, “Only KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda from the Asia Cup T20 tournament team are in the ODI team on the Zimbabwe tour. So it is logical that the head coach should be with the T20 team.
Three ODIs in Zimbabwe will be played in Harare on August 18, 20 and 22. It has been a tradition in the BCCI that when the main team is on a tour, the second tier or A teams are always supervised by the head of the NCA.
