Income Tax Department’s office will open on Saturday in March, decision after the instructions of Finance Minister

All Income Tax Offices up to the level of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax will remain open on all Saturdays this month. This arrangement will start from 12th March itself.

A senior official gave this information on Friday. Finance Minister Sitharaman had earlier this week slammed the CBDT and CBIC for allegedly not responding to complaints from taxpayers during an event in Bengaluru. Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is the apex policy-making body for the IT department, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) is the single authority for the Customs, Central Excise and Goods and Services Tax departments. ,

Rules will be applicable for March

A senior official told PTI that all Income Tax offices up to the level of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax will remain open on all Saturdays this month. This arrangement will start from March 12 itself. Generally Saturday and Sunday are holidays for the employees of Income Tax Department. This step has been taken to address all the grievances of income tax payers before the end of the financial year. Due to this decision, 3 extra days of work can be done in the month of March. Due to which the grievances of more and more taxpayers can be resolved.

Income Tax Department returned Rs 1.86 lakh crore to taxpayers

The Income Tax Department has informed yesterday that it has so far refunded Rs 1.86 lakh crore to 2.14 crore taxpayers in the current financial year. This also includes 1.74 crore refunds worth Rs 35,296.86 crore in 2020-21. The Income Tax Department said on Twitter, “The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has returned more than Rs 1,86,677 crore to more than 2.14 crore taxpayers between April 1, 2021 and March 7, 2022.” It was given that income tax refund of Rs 67,442 crore was done in 2,11,76,025 cases while corporate tax refund of Rs 1,19,235 was done in 2,31,654 cases.
