Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have been working on a new mid-size SUV for quite some time now. Autocar India According to reports, both the SUVs will be launched around the festive season of 2022. Both the SUVs will be manufactured at Toyota’s manufacturing plant in Karnataka. Maruti Suzuki has codenamed its upcoming SUV as YFG while Toyota has codenamed the SUV as D22. The existing vehicles shared by both the manufacturers are made by Maruti Suzuki and both are sold by the manufacturer.

However, it will be different with the upcoming SUV, both will be manufactured by Toyota and then sold by both the manufacturers together. The new SUV will not be built on the TNGA platform, which Toyota uses for the Camry.

It will be a strong hybrid powertrain

Unlike the existing Maruti Suzuki vehicles that use mild-hybrid technology, the new SUV will be a strong hybrid. This will be the same technology that Toyota is using on the Camry. So, there will be a big enough battery to be able to power the SUV on its own.

This will help in increasing the fuel efficiency. Apart from this, it will also offer torque assist. The existing mild-hybrid technology that Maruti Suzuki is using offers torque-assist, but cannot drive the vehicle on its own. But this idle engine comes with start/stop function.

Features of Hyundai Creta Mid-Size SUV

Spy shots of the new Brezza have already surfaced and they have revealed that Maruti Suzuki has added several features to it. We are also expecting the new SUV to be feature loaded so that it can compete with the Kia Seltos, MG Astor and Hyundai Creta.

We are expecting the new SUV to get an electric sunroof, connected car technology, paddle shifters, new multi-information display, 360-degree parking camera, wireless phone charger, LED headlamps and LED tail lamps, a new large touchscreen infotainment system, Android There will be features like auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control.

It is important for Maruti Suzuki that the new SUV they are working on is successful in the Indian market. It is the mid-size SUV which is lacking the most from the manufacturer. They used to have the S-Cross but it was not a huge success in the Indian market. The main reason behind this was the design. The S-Cross looked like a crossover while other mid-sized SUVs that looked like a proper SUV to the rivals. Apart from this, the S-Cross gets a less powerful engine, no diesel option and is lacking in features.
