Hockey India selected 36 women players as core group, will represent the country in important tournaments of the year

Hockey India had tried 60 players, after which 36 have been selected for the core group, who will participate in the upcoming big tournaments.

18 players from the core group are currently playing at the Asian Championships in Muscat.

Hockey India (Hockey India) has on Friday announced the probable 36 national core groups for this year’s all-important tournament. A group of 60 potential players were selected after selection tests conducted at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre, who were called on the basis of their performance in national level events.

The 18-member Indian women’s team will travel to Muscat for the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup (January 21-28). Rani Rampal has been rested due to injury. At the same time, the captaincy of the team has been given to goalkeeper Savita Kumari in her place. The rest of the core group players will remain in the camp and continue training for the FIH Hockey Pro League to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha next month.

Women’s team needs a fresh start

Women’s team head coach Janek Schopman said, “This is the time where we have to start afresh and plan for the future.” We have done well with our experiences in the Tokyo Olympics in the last one year and we would like to continue this performance in the times to come. The coach further said, ‘The upcoming camp is important for us to identify the players who are ready to showcase their skills in the biggest stages and also to work on the areas where we need to improve. Our eyes are now on the Asian Games to be held in 2024. In the quarterfinals, he defeated a strong team like Australia.
