Ford told India the final Tata, the last unit of the EcoSport SUV out of the factory

Ford Motor Company has ended its journey in India. The company has dispatched the last unit of Ford EcoSport car from the plant, the company had suffered a huge loss in India, due to which the company decided to stop business in India last year.

The Indian auto industry is in deep shock at the moment. America’s auto company Ford Motor has said the last goodbye to India. The company has tied the bed while ending its journey in the domestic market. The company was incurring losses for the last several years. To overcome these situations, Ford became a part of restructuring operations, but the company last year Indian Market was abandoned. Ford has dispatched the last unit of the EcoSport SUV from the Chennai plant. The company has two plants at Sanand in Gujarat and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The Sanand plant manufactured small cars like Figo, Freestyle and Aspire, while the Chennai plant produced SUVs like Ford EcoSport and Endeavor.

Announcement to leave India

Ford in India was struggling with losses for many years. On September 9 last year, Ford announced it would leave India. This first involved the closure of the Sanand plant. The Sanand plant was shut down in October 2021 after the last unit of the Ford Freestyle was released. At the same time, the Chennai plant has been kept operational to export cars and engines.

Ford’s Journey

Ford’s journey in India has come to an end with the exit of the last EcoSport unit from the Chennai plant. Ford EcoSport is one of the first car in the sub 4 meter SUV segment in India. Its concept was introduced in 2013 at the Delhi Auto Expo. The EcoSport had a good start in India. Ford had a car that was a great sale.

no government help

Despite the announcement of taking a big reduction and ending business from India, the Government of India extended a helping hand. The Government of India promoted the automobile sector through the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. It was believed that Ford would return as a pure electric vehicle company. Ford was selected among twenty companies, but he declined.
