Demand to Halt Release of Kangana Ranaut’s Film ‘Emergency’ Reaches High Court

Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ Release Date

Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency,’ which has faced several delays, is finally set for its theatrical release on September 6, 2024. However, the atmosphere surrounding the film has become increasingly heated, particularly in Punjab, where a demand to ban its release has emerged. Advocate Iman Singh Khara has filed a petition in the Punjab-Haryana High Court seeking a halt to the film’s release, arguing that the portrayal of Sikhs in the movie is inaccurate and offensive.

The petition highlights concerns that the film’s content misrepresents the Sikh community, and it is expected that a hearing on the matter could take place within two days. In addition to legal actions, protests against the film have also been reported outside cinemas in Bhatinda, where members of the Sikh community are calling for a ban on the film. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has taken a stand against the movie as well, issuing notices to Kangana Ranaut and the film’s producers, demanding the removal of the film’s trailer from social media and a written apology from the filmmakers to the Sikh community.

Threats and Controversies Surrounding ‘Emergency’

Previously, on August 26, a video surfaced on social media in which Vicky Thomas Masiha allegedly threatened Kangana’s life. Following the incident, Kangana took to social media to share the video, tagging the Maharashtra DGP, Himachal Police, and Punjab Police, calling for action regarding the threats made against her. The narrative of ‘Emergency’ is set against the backdrop of the Emergency declared in India in 1975, with Kangana portraying the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Cast and Crew of ‘Emergency’

‘Emergency’ features a stellar cast alongside Kangana Ranaut. Notable actors include Anupam Kher, who portrays Jay Prakash Narayan, Manisha Koirala, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, and Mahima Chaudhary. In addition to playing the lead role, Kangana has undertaken the directorial responsibilities for the film, showcasing her multifaceted talents in the industry.

Release Date Changes of ‘Emergency’

The release of ‘Emergency’ has been postponed multiple times. Initially slated for November 24, 2023, the film’s release was pushed back, and it was later scheduled for June 14, 2024. However, due to Kangana’s commitments during the Lok Sabha elections, that date was also unfeasible. With the new release date set for September 6, the film now faces fresh controversies that could threaten its journey to theaters.

Kangana’s Past Films and Expectations

Kangana was last seen in the film ‘Tejas,’ which was released in October 2023 but failed to perform well at the box office. The film did not meet commercial expectations and was considered a flop. Prior to ‘Tejas,’ several of her films had also underperformed. As a result, the success of ‘Emergency’ is critical for Kangana’s career at this juncture, highlighting the stakes involved for her as an actress and filmmaker.
