In the glitzy world of entertainment, making a name for oneself is no easy task. Every year, countless individuals come to Mumbai, driven by the dream of becoming an actor and working tirelessly to achieve it. However, not everyone gets a taste of the industry’s glamour. Yet, those who possess dedication and perseverance manage to carve their own path. Recently, one name has been buzzing in the Hindi film industry. With just a few films under her belt, she has captured the hearts of many. Her performances have led to her being dubbed as the next Alia Bhatt of Bollywood, although she is determined to make her mark as Shervari Wagh, the first of her name.
Starting Out as an Assistant Director
Shervari Wagh, hailing from a Marathi family in Mumbai, entered the film industry with aspirations of becoming a leading actress. Coming from a political family—her grandfather Manohar Joshi was a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra—Shervari boasts an impressive lineage. Her father, Shailesh, is a prominent builder in Mumbai, and her mother, Namrata, is an architect. Shervari also has a sister who followed in their mother’s footsteps to become an architect. To establish her foothold in the industry, Shervari began her career as an Assistant Director (AD), contributing to hits like ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ for notable Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
Building Recognition in a Short Time
After working as an assistant director for three films, Shervari decided to step into the limelight herself and pursue acting. This shift led her to auditions, and in 2021, she debuted in ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ alongside Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji. While the initial response was moderate, she managed to catch the attention of audiences and critics alike. She earned accolades including the Best Debut at the IIFA Awards and Best Female Debut at the Filmfare Awards. With films like ‘Munjya,’ ‘Maharaj,’ and ‘Veda,’ Shervari has established a solid reputation in the industry.
A Memorable Encounter with Deepika Padukone
Recently, Shervari shared a touching anecdote about her time on the set of ‘Bajirao Mastani.’ During an interview, she recounted that while working as an AD, a memorable moment occurred while filming a song that required Deepika Padukone to make a grand entrance through two massive doors. Shervari was responsible for timing the door openings perfectly, and during this hectic moment, Deepika stopped to ask her name. Shervari was thrilled to later tell everyone, “Deepika Ma’am asked me for my name that day!” This experience marked a significant point in her aspiring career.
Becoming a Part of the YRF Spy Universe
From opening doors for Deepika Padukone to establishing a significant presence in the YRF Spy Universe, Shervari has come a long way. She has quickly secured her place in this cinematic world, featuring in the upcoming film ‘Alpha,’ which also stars Alia Bhatt in a lead role. In this film, audiences can look forward to an exciting face-off between Shervari and Bobby Deol, who plays a villain. This spy thriller showcases Shervari and Alia as undercover agents on a critical mission. With filming already in progress, fans eagerly await the release of this film, which promises to be an exhilarating ride.
