CWG 2022: Sanket Sargar stakes career for gold, misses one kilo
Sanket Sargar won India its first medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Sargar missed the gold medal by a margin of just one kilo. Malaysia player got gold.

India won its first medal on the second day of Commonwealth Games 2022. This medal was won by weightlifter Sanket Sargar, who won the silver medal by lifting 248 kg in the 55 kg category.
Sanket Mahadev Sargar missed the gold medal by just one kg. Sergar got injured during his second attempt in the clean and jerk. He suffered an elbow injury on his right hand. However, despite this, he made a third attempt to win the gold.
Sanket tried to lift 139 kg in the last attempt but due to elbow pain, he could not do so. He woke up in pain. After this effort of Sanket, the commentators even said that this player has played with his career.
Let us tell you that this injury seems to be serious because even in the medal ceremony, the signs were seen in pain. He was wearing a bandage in his right hand and both despair and pain were visible on his face.
Malaysia’s Mohamed Anik won the gold medal in the 53 kg category. This player lifted 142 kg in the last attempt in clean and jerk and his score reached 249 kg including the snatch. In such a situation, Sanket had to lose gold with just one kilo.
