CNG became expensive again, MGL announced to increase rates, relief to LPG customers

However, LPG consumers have got relief for the time being and there has been no increase in PNG prices. According to MGL, the increase in CNG prices has been due to a 110 percent jump in natural gas prices. This is the third increase in CNG prices since April 6. According to MGL, from midnight tonight, the price of CNG in Mumbai and its surrounding areas will increase to Rs 76 per kg. MGL supplies CNG to Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Navi Mumbai and adjoining areas.
Natural gas became 110 percent expensive
The central government has increased the prices of gas supplied by ONGC and Oil India by 110 percent from April 1. And the prices have reached $ 6.1 per mmBtu. When natural gas is compressed, it turns into CNG which is used to drive vehicles. At the same time it is also used in cooking gas. In its statement, MGL said that the prices of the gas procured by it have increased significantly. CNG rates are being increased to deal with the rising cost. However, MGL said that even after the increase in prices, CNG is 57 percent cheaper than petrol and 27 percent cheaper than diesel. Earlier on April 6, MGL had increased the prices of CNG by Rs 7 and PNG by Rs 5 per unit. After this, on April 12, CNG was increased by Rs 5 and PNG by Rs 4.5 per unit.
CNG became expensive in Pune today
Today itself, a jump of Rs 2.20 has been seen in the price of CNG gas in Pune, Maharashtra. The hike in CNG prices has come into effect from today. Now the price of CNG gas in Pune is Rs 77.20. There has been a lot of volatility in the price of natural gas in the month of April. Earlier the government reduced the rate of VAT on natural gas from 13 percent to 3 percent. The new rate of VAT was implemented from 1st April 2022. After deducting VAT, the price of CNG gas in Pune came down to Rs 62 per kg. The price hike was started within just a week and so far in April it has become more expensive by more than Rs 15.
