Giving an example, Puri said that in Chhattisgarh, VAT on petrol and diesel is 24 percent. If this is brought down to 10 per cent, then there will be a sudden drop in the price. He said that there will be no loss of revenue to the state governments by reducing VAT. Economic activities have increased due to which demand has increased. In such a situation, if VAT is reduced, there will be no loss of immediate revenue to the government. VAT rates are low in BJP ruled states, but VAT is very high in other states.
