According to information received from sources, CCEA (CCEA-Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs) can take a decision on making Chandigarh a separate Discom today. About 2.50 lakh electricity consumers can benefit from this. Of these, 2.14 lakh people are using household electricity while others are for commercial, small power, public lighting and agriculture connections. Apart from this, the second phase of the Green Energy Corridor can also be approved. Let us tell you that green energy corridors are being built to reduce the dependence on electricity generation from coal and to promote alternative energy.

A decision can be taken today regarding discoms in Chandigarh. Sources say that Chandigarh may get a separate discom. Many companies are involved in the race to buy Chandigarh Electricity Department.

These include Adani Transmission Limited, Tata Power, Torrent Power, Sterelite Power, Rune Wind Energy, Eminent Electricity Distribution Limited and NTPC. The UT Power Man Union approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the process. After the hearing, the High Court had stayed the decision of the UT administration on 1 December 2020.

70 percent of the total electricity generation of the country comes from coal. But coal reserves are limited. That is why the government wants to promote green energy in the country. Now the government can approve its second phase.
