In recent weeks, Arshad Warsi’s statements have stirred quite a buzz across Bollywood and South Indian film industries. The actor recently made remarks that have led to several South stars publicly taking jabs at him. Amidst this ongoing discourse, renowned filmmaker Boney Kapoor has also weighed in on the subject. Notably, Arshad began his career in the 90s with the film “Tere Mere Sapne” and worked as a choreographer in Boney Kapoor’s production venture “Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja” in 1993.
Arshad’s Remarks and Boney Kapoor’s Response
During a recent interview with Samdish Bhatia, Arshad Warsi expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the pay he received for his choreography in 1993, claiming it was significantly less than expected. Following this, Boney Kapoor decided to break his silence and responded to Warsi’s comments. Kapoor stated, “He was not a star at that time.” As per his remarks shared in a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Boney was amused by Arshad’s retrospective comments.
Boney’s Take on Arshad’s Pay
Boney laughed off Arshad’s claim about receiving inadequate pay, noting, “It took him three decades to bring up an incident from 1992.” He further pointed out that Arshad was not a star then and that producers had initially anticipated the choreography would take four days, but the music director Pankaj Parashar completed it in three.
Boney Kapoor: The Media Attention Game
Boney Kapoor emphasized that Arshad was paid ₹75,000 for three days of work, earning ₹25,000 per day. Kapoor expressed his view that Arshad had never raised concerns about his payment previously. He stated that nowadays everyone seems eager for media attention, suggesting that Arshad’s comments might be looking for a spotlight.
Pankaj Parashar’s Perspective
Music director Pankaj Parashar chimed in on the issue, asserting he was not involved in the financial aspects at the time. Parashar mentioned that he directed the track on Boney’s request and had no knowledge about the payment details. He dismissed Arshad’s claims, stating that the song was completed in three days, and added that Arshad was an emerging choreographer back then who was not fully in control of the shoot.
Resolution to the Controversy
After Arshad’s claim of being shortchanged, where he mentioned he was supposed to receive ₹1 lakh but only got ₹75,000, the situation escalated quickly as multiple figures from the industry responded. It appears that the disagreement has opened a dialogue regarding pay and recognition in the film industry, especially for newcomers.
