Auto Sales: Tata Motors sales up 74% in April, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai sales decline

The company said that its imports have increased to 12,200 units from 10,201 units in April last year.

Maruti Suzuki sales down 6%

The wholesale sales of the country’s largest car company Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) declined by six per cent to 1,50,661 units in April 2022. In April 2021, the company sold 1,59,691 vehicles.

The company said in a statement on Sunday that its domestic sales in April declined by seven per cent to 1,32,248 units from 1,42,454 units in the same month a year ago. Sales of the company’s small cars – Alto and S-Presso – declined by 32 per cent from 25,041 to 17,137 units in the month under review. Similarly, the company’s sales in the compact segment declined by 18 per cent to 59,184 units. In this segment, the company sells models like Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire. The company’s sales in this segment stood at 72,318 units in April, 2021. The sales of the mid-size sedan Ciaz have come down to 579 units from the figure of 1,567 units in April 2021.

However, sales of utility vehicles such as Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga jumped 33 per cent to 33,941 units as against 25,484 units in the same month a year ago. The company’s exports grew 7 per cent to 18,413 units in April from 17,237 units in the same month a year ago.
