When asked how many Aadhaar numbers have been linked with Voter ID, the Election Commission replied to an RTI query that ‘It is informed that the process of linking voter list/EPIC database with Aadhaar database has not yet been initiated. It is also informed that the total number of Form-6B received from the existing voters from 01.08.2022 to 12.12.2022 is 54,32,84,760.

In response to a question as to how many entries were deleted or duplicate or fraudulent cases detected, the EC replied that as stated above Aadhaar linking has not been initiated, no such entries have been made so far on the basis of Aadhaar linking. Also the entry is not recognized. The RTI reply also pointed out that the Election Commission had on July 4 directed state chief electoral officers to “run a program for collection of Aadhaar numbers of existing voters on a voluntary basis in Form-6B” from August 1. The answer to this question has not yet been received from the Election Commission as to why the linking of Voter ID with Aadhaar has not started yet?
What did the Law Minister say in Parliament
Meanwhile, replying to a question by MPs Ritesh Pandey, Pradyut Bordoloi and Syed Imtiyaz Jaleel in the Lok Sabha on Friday, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju clarified that no voter will be removed from the list for not linking Aadhaar and Voter ID . In the written reply of the minister, it has been said that the Aadhaar numbers have been stored under the name ‘Aadhaar Data Vault’. The minister replied that the ECI strictly follows the guidelines laid down by the UIDAI and does not store the Aadhaar number in its database. The Aadhaar number is used only for authentication purposes and ECI does not retrieve any personal information from the UIDAI Aadhaar database.
