Sarfaraz Khan scored more than 900 runs in the second consecutive Ranji Trophy season and was once again Mumbai’s most successful batsman, but Mumbai could not win the title both times.
The last season of Ranji Trophy could not be played due to Corona virus infection, but it did not affect the performance of young Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan. Sarfaraz, who scored a flurry of runs in the season before Corona, again rained heavily with his bat in the 2021-22 season. The current season of Ranji Trophy came to an end on Sunday 26 June, with the 41-time champion despite Sarfaraz’s stellar performance. Madhya Pradesh to Mumbai (Mumbai vs Madhya Pradesh) lost by 6 wickets. Mumbai may have missed out on the title, but Sarfaraz won another season and once again credited his father for his success.
Sarfaraz named Player of the Tournament
This season of Ranji Trophy also ended with the historic victory of Madhya Pradesh. This season will certainly be remembered for MP’s success, but this season’s stellar performances will have a different place in the story for Sarfaraz, who scored the most runs in the tournament and was adjudged Player of the Series. Sarfaraz, who scored above average, dedicated his Player of the Series award to his father. Sarfaraz got a reward of Rs 1 lakh for his performance and he gave the credit to his father. Posting a picture with his father on Instagram, Sarfaraz wrote, “The credit for everything goes to my dear Abbu ji.
‘Success is impossible without father’s struggle’
Sarfaraz had scored the most runs for Mumbai in both the innings of the final. He got a century in the first innings, then scored 45 runs in the second innings. Sarfaraz remembered his father even after the first innings century. Then while talking to the media, he said,
…if I had not had a father, I would not have reached here. When we had nothing, I used to travel with my father in the train. When I started playing cricket, I dreamed of scoring a century in Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. This is completed. Then there was another dream that when the team needed the most in the final, then I should score a century and that’s why after the century I became very emotional, because my father worked very hard for it. All credit goes to him.

This aggressive batsman of 24 years of Mumbai ended the season with 982 runs in 9 innings of 6 matches. This is Sarfaraz’s best performance in a Ranji season. In the second consecutive season, Sarfaraz crossed the 900-plus run mark but unfortunately Mumbai could not win the title both the times. Sarfaraz scored these runs at an astonishing average of 122, which included 4 centuries and 2 half-centuries including the final. His biggest score in this season was 275 runs, which came during the group stage.
