Bank Strike: No Banking Services Today – Here’s Why!

If you have any banking-related work today, this news may be crucial for you. The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) has announced a nationwide strike today, which could affect banking services across the country. As a result, your banking tasks might face delays. Before heading to your bank, it is advisable to call your branch to confirm if they are open or not.

AIBEA’s General Secretary, C.H. Venkatachalam, stated in an interview that the proposed strike is a protest against the filing of charges against all 13 officials of the Bank of India Staff Union-Kerala due to political pressure. He emphasized that among the employees included in the charges, four are former soldiers, three of whom participated in the Kargil War. Regarding the collective charges against the union officials, he mentioned, “The Bank of India Staff Union-Kerala is affiliated with AIBEA.”

Today’s bank strike will see participation from members of multiple bank unions, including the United Forum of Bank Unions, All India Bank Officers Confederation, National Confederation of Bank Employees, Bank Employees Federation of India, and All India Bank Officers Association, among others.

Which Banks Are Likely to Be Affected?

Almost five additional bank unions are joining the strike, which includes the United Forum of Bank Unions, All India Bank Officers Confederation, National Confederation of Bank Employees, Bank Employees Federation of India, and All India Bank Officers Association.

Reasons Behind the Strike

The unions allege that there are political attacks on banks. Today’s strike is a response to actions taken against 13 bank employees in Kerala for their participation in the 23rd All India Bank Employees Conference organized by AIBEA. General Secretary C.H. Venkatachalam stated that the strike is intended to safeguard innocent employees from wrongful actions while demanding accountability from the guilty.
