Rahul Gandhi: Caste Census is Key to Policy Making in Prayagraj

Rahul Gandhi Advocates for Caste Census at Constitution Respect Conference

Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, attended the ‘Constitution Respect Conference’ held in Prayagraj on Saturday. During his address, he emphasized the vital responsibility of upholding and protecting the Constitution. He began by narrating the story of Mochi Ramchait from Sultanpur, highlighting the significance of representation and rights. Once again, he reiterated the pressing need for conducting a caste census, stating that it wouldn’t merely reveal population numbers but also provide insight into participation across various sectors.

The Importance of Caste Census

Addressing the importance of a caste census, Rahul Gandhi remarked, “If you compile a list of 500 industrialists, see how many Dalits and Adivasis are represented.” He further criticized national media representation, noting the lack of Dalit and backward community anchors. He asserted that the goal should be to help 100% of the population, rather than just 5% or 10%. For him, this is not merely about data collection; it is about establishing a foundation for policy-making that reflects the realities of society.

Questioning the Prime Minister’s Foreign Visits

Continuing his speech, Rahul Gandhi did not shy away from targeting Prime Minister Modi, raising questions about his frequent travels to Ukraine and Russia. He pointed out Modi’s pattern of visiting various countries and engaging in diplomatic gestures, suggesting that the Prime Minister is adopting a royal model akin to kings and emperors. He remarked, “Modi ji sees himself as an emperor, and he is fundamentally out of touch with reality.”

Upholding the Constitution

Talking more about the Constitution, he stated that the systems established by it must be vigorously defended. He highlighted that if 90% of the people are not included in decision-making processes, the essence of the Constitution will be at risk. Rahul Gandhi asserted that India can only become a superpower when there is active participation from 90% of its population.

Conclusion

In a strong conclusion, he criticized the notion that mere personal connections or gestures, like PM Modi’s camaraderie with world leaders, would elevate India’s global stature. Gandhi emphasized that real progress demands inclusive governance and representation, reinforcing his argument for a caste census as a necessary tool for social equity and development.
