TRP Report: Bollywood Superstar Outshines Anupamaa; KBC with Amitabh Bachchan Struggles

The 33rd week of the year 2024 has brought in the latest TRP ratings, shedding light on the dynamics of the Indian television industry. This week, Star Plus’s popular serial ‘Anupama’ continues to reign supreme with a rating of 2.4, cementing its position as the number one TV show. However, it seems that Rupali Ganguly may owe a nod of thanks to Riteish Deshmukh, as his ‘Bigg Boss Marathi’ has garnered impressive ratings that overshadow many expectations. Without Riteish’s significant pull, ‘Anupama’ might have faced tougher competition.

Indeed, Riteish Deshmukh’s ‘Bigg Boss Marathi Season 5’ recorded a rating of 3.9, surpassing ‘Anupama’ by a notable margin of 1.5 points. This surge in ratings positions Riteish as the second major face of the ‘Bigg Boss’ franchise, following Salman Khan. In the usual TRP rankings right behind ‘Anupama’, the show ‘Jhanak’ has secured the second spot. ‘Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin’ follows in third place, with ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ in fourth, and ‘Uddne Ki Asha’ rounding out the top five.

How is KBC Faring?

Recently, Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) kicked off its new season, garnering an opening TRP of 0.8. While this rating may appear modest when compared to its previous seasons, it stands as a decent figure against other programs airing on Sony TV. There was a time when KBC used to cross the 2 mark easily, reflecting its once formidable viewer engagement. However, with a growing trend of viewers opting to catch episodes on the Sony Liv app, a 0.8 rating can be considered a victory for the show. The presence of KBC has influenced the scheduling of other shows, prompting the shift of ‘Shreemad Ramayan’ to Sony Sab, which now enjoys a higher TRP of 0.8 compared to its previous standing of 0.5.

Declining Ratings for Laughter Chef & Zakir Khan’s New Show

This week, the comical cooking show ‘Laughter Chef’, hosted by Bharti Singh, saw a considerable drop in its ratings. Following the airing of Rohit Shetty’s ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’, ‘Laughter Chef’ was relegated to weekdays, leading to a fall from 1.9 to 1.5. Bharti’s co-hosts include prominent personalities like Ankita Lokhande, Vicky Jain, Jannat Zubair, Reem Sameer, Arjun Bijlani, Karan Kundra, Rahul Vaidya, and Ali Goni, while celebrity chef Harpal Singh judges the competition.

Meanwhile, another show that has faced disappointing ratings is Zakir Khan’s ‘Aapka Apna Zakir’. Expectations were high for this comedy show when it launched alongside KBC, yet it only managed a disappointing rating of 0.5. This show now occupies the time slot previously held by Kapil Sharma’s program, which adds to the concern surrounding its future prospects.

Current TRP Rankings Overview
